Native legends are often difficult to prove and generally contrived as mystical stories of God-like beings and ghostly spirits. Andrew Jessup is consumed by one such legend. A hidden cache of gold somewhere in a forbidden valley, where according to legend, a formidable creature called the Guardian watches for trespassers. But first he must find what the natives call the Devil’s Tail, the great monolith that marks the gateway to the valley.
After a long a desperate search, with one mishap after another, the Devil’s Tail remains a mystery. Almost ready to end his search, Andy discovers an old gold mine, and the remains of the miner who met his demise years before. Elated by the discovery of the rich mine, a journal left behinds leaves a disturbing tale.
Andy returns home a rich man and plans to marry his girlfriend Maggie, but the words in the journal haunt him and he makes the decision to continue his search for the Devil’s Tail and the hidden valley. Returning to the mine, Andy is plagued by the mystery and after observing a strange creature, he discovers the Devil’s Tail and is led into the hidden valley. Days later, sick and near death, Andy is taken to an underground world where he meets Miatuna and her father Kukook, natives in lost hidden world called Nevara. Nursed back to health Andy is befriended by the strange people resembling what can only be described as the legendary Sasquatch and learns of their secret existence and their fight for survival. Attracted to the beautiful Miatuna, Andy is tempted to remain in Nevara, but he soon realizes where his real future lies and returns home, a share of the hidden gold as his reward for keeping the existence a secret.
  Â
The adventure continues when Andy convinces his new wife Maggie to return with him to Nevera where she is embraced by the villagers, young and old alike, especially the children. But the future of the lost race is threatened when it is learned that others have discovered Andy’s gold mine. Kukook and the Guardians pursue a quest to protect their existence and eliminate a threat from the outside world. During a confrontation to drive the men off the mountain one is killed and the other wounded and brought to Nevara. His fate, left to the Guardian bear Kulyak, is certain death.Â
Andy has turned over the rights to his mine to Aari Taikeet, a local native and friend. Taikeet is soon confronted by Rodney Jacobs, a friend of the two men killed. A confrontation ensues and during the standoff Kukook arrives and tries to intervene but is shot and killed. Jacobs escapes.Â
Andy and Maggie are long overdue for their return home and are soon discovered by a rescue party sent out to look for them. Aari decides to return to Nevara where he meets Lorinta. In a daring move, Aari decides to bring Lorinta back to Anchorage where they are married, however, soon after, an earthquake hits southern Alaska. Concerned for the welfare of the natives of Nevara, Andy and Aari hastily return to find much damage to Nevara and the hidden valley destroyed. Aari and Lorinta decide to stay behind and Andy vows to return with Maggie someday and visit. For now, what the future holds for the natives is uncertain.

Napoleon Khoric returns in a mystery of all mysteries, dead bodies, lost gold, guardian spirits and mischievous ghosts. It all takes place along the historic Rappahannock River in Central Virginia where the last of the brave soldiers tells his story and unites two old Virginia families.Â
Despondent over recent setbacks Khoric turns to old friends and renowned mystery writer James T. Hanscomb. Hanscomb’s great, great, great grandfather, Lt Col Zachary Tyler Hanscomb, a Confederate cavalry officer, was killed near the end of the Civil War. Where his body now rests has been a mystery the Hanscomb’s have tried to solve for several years.
During reconstruction of the family homestead, Hanscomb discovers the Colonel’s war journal. He describes an ambush that took the lives of seven men under his command, and most astonishing of all, the loss of a gold shipment … a shipment they believe may still lie on the bottom of the river.
United together once more Khoric teams up with FBI Special Agent Cassandra Ebberhardt in what becomes one of their most difficult investigations.
