An artist, author, adventurer, and U.S. Air Force veteran, Curtiss Poormon has traversed the wilderness areas from the Alaska Range to the Chugach Mountains, to the Rockies, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Adirondacks. His experiences are what made his thrilling tales possible.
was born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York where he graduated from high school in 1966 and married his wife Rosemarie in October of that same year. In 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he spent the next 20 years serving as a Meteorologist. After his years of service, he established his first art gallery where he began to develop his skills as a wildlife artist.
in 1991, Curtiss and his wife moved to Fort Collins, CO where he continued his art career and established Silver Fox Studio. With a slowing economy, they moved back to Virginia where he decided to pursue a degree in business. Upon graduation, Curtiss was recruited by the CIA where he spent twelve years serving as a Contracting Officer.
It was during the last two years with the Agency that he decided to pursue his writing career; opting to tell a story with words as well as pictures. Upon retirement in 2015, Curtiss and his wife moved to Lake Anna, Virginia, where they still live today. His new studio/library contains over a thousand books, by his favorite authors like Clive Cussler, David Baldacci, Nora Roberts, C. J. Box, John Jakes, and John Grisham to name some of his favorites.
He prefers to write outdoor adventures and mysteries, with some of the supernatural and sci-fi tossed in to enhance the reader’s experience. Occasionally, he adds some of his personal experiences into the mix (such as the Matanuska Series).
Curtiss has had his artwork featured in several galleries and art shows, and he continues to do commission work when he’s not busy writing his latest novel. Specializing in painting birds and water foul, Curtiss has worked with Ducks Unlimited and was honored as Colorado Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Artist of the Year in 1994. In 2018 he was selected as the Wisconsin Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Artist of the Year. He has been a semi-finalist in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest four times.
Curtiss’ future plans are to spend his remaining years writing his novels, while traveling the country searching for new ideas and settings for his next book, occasionally taking the time to paint a commission or two. With several novels published, the next one is currently in the works!
